Metals, activated transmetallation

Aldol reactions of silyl enolates are promoted by a catalytic amount of transition metals through transmetallation generating transition metal enolates. In 1995, Shibasaki and Sodeoka reported an enantioselective aldol reaction of enol silyl ethers to aldehydes using a Pd-BINAP complex in wet DMF. Later, this finding was extended to a catalytic enantioselective Mannich-type reaction to a-imino esters by Sodeoka s group [Eq. (13.21)]. Detailed mechanistic studies revealed that the binuclear p-hydroxo complex 34 is the active catalyst, and the reaction proceeds through a palladium enolate. The transmetallation step would be facilitated by the hydroxo ligand transfer onto the silicon atom of enol silyl ethers ... [Pg.394]

In 2007, Fernandez et al. demonstrated that transition-metal complexes with heterobidentate S/C ligands based on imidazopyridin-3-ylidene and thioether functionalities could be readily prepared from the corresponding azolium salts by reaction with Ag20 and transmetalation of the resulting silver carbenes with appropriate metal sources. The cationic Pd(allyl)(carbene-S) complexes have proven to be active catalysts in the test reaction, reaching enantioselectivities of... [Pg.40]

As part of a study into the activation of metal catalysts in thiol or thiolate-rich environments, X-substituted coenzyme M and thioglycolate derivatives were investigated in a Ni-catalyzed crosscoupling reaction with a zinc co-factor the role of zinc was shown to be in a transmetallation process.571... [Pg.1197]

Alternatively, the transmetalation can be facilitated by increasing the nucleophilicity of the carbon nucleophile participating in the cross-coupling, which is most often done by increasing the electron density on the metal by coordination of extra anionic ligands. Two distinct approaches to nucleophilic activation are (i) the addition of appropriate Lewis bases to the reaction mixture (nucleophilic catalysis) or (ii) the use of a preformed, electron-rich, organo-metallic reagent with enhanced nucleophilicity. [Pg.327]

Carreira and Kruger reported facile transmetallation of silicon enolates to other soft metal enolates including Gu derivatives.499 They reasoned that the use of soft metal fluoride complexes enabled silyl metal transmetallation with catalytic use of a soft metal source. The concept is illustrated in Scheme 103. Normal Lewis acid-catalyzed reactions of silicon enolates with aldehydes proceed via activation of aldehydes by carbonyl oxygen coordination to Lewis acids, as shown in the upper equation of Scheme 103. A key step for catalytic turnover is the desilyation of 233 by the... [Pg.474]

Many pyridine-indole compounds are biologically active. A growing number of methods for the preparation of indolylstannanes have been developed. 2-Trialkylstannylindoles, for example, have been synthesized via directed metalation followed by reaction with tin chloride [91-93]. The latest indolylstannane syntheses include Fukuyama s free radical approach to 2-trialkylstannylindoles from novel isonitrile-alkenes [94], and its extension to an isonitrile-alkyne cascade [95]. Assisted by the chelating effect of the SEM group oxygen atom, direct metalation of 1-SEM-indole and transmetalation with BujSnCl afforded 2-(tributylstannyl)-l//-indole 108, which was then coupled with 2,6-dibromopyridine to give adduct 109. [Pg.205]

Pyridine-functionalized N-heterocyclic carbene Rh and Ir complexes have also been described as active precatalysts for C=0 bond TH. For example, Peris and coworkers observed the formation of metal hydrides by C—H oxidative addition of a pyridine-N-substituted imidazolium salt such as N-"Bu-N -(2-pyridylmethyl-imidazolium) hexafluorophosphate in the reaction leading to M-pyNHC complexes, that is [lr(cod)H(pyNHC)Cl] (58) [54]. Transmetallation from silver carbene... [Pg.76]
