Metallic linkage

In general, compounds having an active phosphoms—metal linkage react with alkyl haUdes. Such compounds include alkaU or alkaline-earth phosphides or phosphine derivatives, eg, Na P, PH2Na, XMgPR2, or... 

It has been noted (Section II,B,1) that reactions between transition metal carbonyl anions and silicon halides often fail to produce species containing silicon-transition metal bonds, and that such failure has been ascribed to nucleophilic attack by carbonyl oxygen. It is therefore interesting that compounds containing Si—O—C—transition metal linkages have recently been isolated from such reactions [Eqs. (105) (R = Me, Ph) 183) and (106)...

Carbon-Metallic Linkages. Compounds containing such linkages may be cleaved by hydrogenolysis to give the metal and hydrocarbons. Thus, lead tetraphenyl on treatment with hydrogen at a pressure of 1,000 psig and a temperature of 200°C yields lead and benzene. Tin tetraethyl on Rimilar treatment is converted to tin and ethane.
