Metal clusters manganese

A series of main-group transition metal clusters of manganese and rhenium with the structural types [37] and [32] has been isolated from reactions of the carbonyls with gallium and indium 201, 202, 323, 324. ... 

Metal cluster complexes containing vinylidene ligands have been considered as models of species present when olefins or alkynes are chemisorbed on metal surfaces (114). Vinylidene has been detected in reactions of ethylene or acetylene with Fe(100), Ni( 111), and Pt(l 11) surfaces (115), and was shown to be an intermediate by theoretical studies on a manganese surface (116). The facile cleavage of C-H bonds which occurs in these systems, together with hydrogen addition or abstraction, also occurs on metal clusters. It is convenient here to include fluorides with a metal-to-fluorine ratio of 1 2.5. There are three examples. The chromium (53) and manganese (54) compounds, which are not isostructural, can be considered of the type, MF2,MF3, containing di- and trivalent metals. The niobium compound (35) is the only example of a metal cluster fluoride reported as yet. 

OMS and OL materials may also find applications in areas presently employing conventional manganese oxide materials such as electrolytic manganese oxide (deposition at electrode surfaces), dry cell batteries, production of ferrites, as components of oxidation catalysts, and for crosslinking of rubber. 104 potential applications in separation science,105 environmental catalysis,106 and biological systems 107 may also be possible. Other possibilities include use as sensors,100 as supports for metal clusters, 109 and in disposal of radioactive metal ions.H0... 

Within this context, the present article concentrates on transition metal cluster complexes of cobalt, iron and manganese with mixed chalcogen/carbonyl ligand spheres obtained by reaction of simple binary metal carbonyls with alkali-metal sulfides, alkali-metal thiolates or transition-metal thiolate complexes and their selenium or tellurium counterparts. 

Buckling was measured by flux mapping with manganese foils. Buckllngs were also measured for a lattice containing only 3 19-element U-metal clusters and a lattice containing only 89 ZEEP rods. The measurements were made for the same pitches as above (18, 22, and 28 cm). 

The gallium and indium atoms maintain their typical tricoordination and do not interact with carbon monoxide which interacts only with the transition metal atoms (manganese). Such a behaviour means that non-transition and transition metal atoms maintain their own properties even when directly bound also in a complex cluster cage. In agreement with this point in a compound as Sn[Co(CO)4] 2 [Mn(CO)s] 2 [137] the cobalt and manganese atoms maintain their typical coordination as the tin atom.
