Memory arrays

Another alternative prototype of memory array, consisting of data stored as electrostatic charge or molecular dipole in a two-dimensional network of streptavidin cross-linked by biotinylated porphyrin derivative, was also suggested. The stability, life, and reproducibility of typical threshold and memory switches have recently been reviewed by Ovshinsky and Fritzsche (1973). The statistical fluctuation of is about a few percent of for threshold switches and 5% for memory switches. Individual memory switches were subjected to more than 10 set-reset pulse trains as those shown in Figure 6.4(b) without failure. A whole 16X16 memory array of Figure 6.13 has presently an average failure free life of 2X 10 set-reset cycles. Memory devices were found to remain in the set or in the reset condition without change while being subjected to 10 read cycles over the period of one year (Neale and Aseltine (1973)).

For fast access to the two-electron integrals, a four-dimensional array might be straightforward. PKC isozymes are involved in a wide array of diverse cellular functions [5]. Most isozymes (e.g., PKC (3) are involved in proliferative responses, and hyperactivation with phorbol esters most typically results in cell growth and differentiation. However, isozymes can have opposing functions. PKC 8 is well-characterized as an apoptotic kinase, whereas the closely related PKC e is antiapoptotic. PKC also plays a key role in learning and memory.
