Membership Russia

A. M. Butlerov (in 1882) and N. N. Beketov (in 1903). In addition to honoured members from Russia, a few prominent foreign chemists were given this title as well, such as Svante Arrhenius in 1909. Finally, the society continued to print both Butlerov s and Mendeleev s names in the membership lists after their deaths (1886 and 1907, respectively). [Pg.295]

The 2004 GC meeting was held in Granada (XX lUPAC Symposium). W. Rettig was nominated for the new Chairmanship, but he was unable to take up the position due to poor health. The GC appointed the new EC D. Phillips (Chairman, Fig. 32), E. Vauthey (Switzerland), D. Markovitsi (France) and N. Gritsan (Russia) as new Secretaries. H. Lemmetyinen (Finland) and S. Monti (Italy) were re-confirmed as Secretaries and S. Canonica as Treasurer. The membership fee was increased to 30 Euro (15 for students) mainly because of the increasing cost paid by the EPA for free access of its members to PPS. [Pg.222]

N. N. Beketov, JRCS1 (1869) 235. Beketov studied chemistry under N. N. Zinin in Kazan University. He taught in Kharkov University from 1855 to 1887 (extraordinary professor in 1860 and full professor in 1865). After election to membership in the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences in 1886, he moved to St. Petersburg. He was one of the pioneers in physical chemistry in Russia. Under his initiative, thermochemistry laboratories were created in Kharkov and in St. Petersburg. See Volkov and Kulikova (note 13), 22-23. [Pg.37]
