MCFCs of FCE and MTU

The resulting hot module is a notable piece of simplification by MTU which leapfrogged the US parent firm. There has now been a double leapfrog via vigorous investment and reorganisation is a new manufacturing site in Germany to meet the needs of a raft of new commercial customers (see web site). 

Flistoric MCFC flow sheets had a pre-reformer for hydrocarbons above CH4, which the reduced-temperature, MTU 600 °C anode reform 

The B2 exhaust fires a steam generator, auxiliary heaters, and water recovery equipment. The exhaust from methane oxidation is steam laden. 

A so far exclusive feature of the competing IT/SOFC is, however, the nascent ability (Chapter 4) to oxidise methane and other hydrocarbon gases electrochemically, without reform. The future MCFC is likely to have to meet this potential leapfrog of its simplicity and fuel versatility.
