Matrine N-oxide

Extracts of various Sophora species have earlier been reported to show antitumour activity, and it was therefore of interest to determine which, if any, of the alkaloidal constituents was responsible for this activity. Kojima et al.21 have now shown that matrine exhibits anti-tumour activity against Ehrlich ascites tumour in mice, and both matrine and matrine N-oxide show activity against solid Sarcoma-180 in mice. In fact, the chemotherapeutic index of matrine IV-oxide for Sarcoma-180 is estimated to be about 7.8 times that of mitomycin C. [Pg.84]

QuinoiizidLne Alkaloids.—Analysis of Goebelia pachycarpa shoots after administration of " C-labelled matridinc (41) and matrine (42) has indicated the sequence for alkaloid biosynthesis as matridine, matrine, matrine N-oxide, sophocarpine (43), sophocarpine iV-oxide, and sophoramine (44). ... [Pg.10]

Matrine Group.—J -Ray studies of matrine alkaloids have continued in Russia with the examination of sophoridine,26 isosophoridine,27 tetrahydro-neosophoramine,28 and allomatrine and its N-oxide.29 The mass spectra of... [Pg.67]

Ten of the 45 alkaloids that were gas chromatographed by Lloyd et al. in 19611 on a 2-3 % SE-30 on Chromosorb W column were lupine alkaloids. The bicyclic lupinine and the tricyclic sparteine, a-isosparteine and 13-hydroxysparteine were chromatographed at at column temperature of 160°C, the tricyclic cytisine, methylcytisine, methylcytisine-N-oxide and the tetracyclic lupanine, 13-hydroxylupanine and matrine at 204°C.The retention times of the alkaloids are listed in Table 7.1. [Pg.55]

Russian studies of the stereochemistry of alkaloids of the matrine group by X-ray analysis have been extended to cis-matrine (20), sophoridine N-oxide (21), " and lehmannine N-oxide (22). The stereochemical complexity of some Ormosia alkaloids was discussed last year (c. Vol. 12, p.76-77). Now the alkaloid sweetinine, first obtained from Sweetia panamensis, has been isolated from S. [Pg.92]
