Marks, reflectivity

Particularly, the trans isomer of l,2-dimethyl-l,2-diphenylethylene is coplanar and the cis isomer is noncoplanar. However, both isomers are oriented in an identical manner within the electrode space and electric field (Homer and Roder 1969). The energy needed for such an orientation is not markedly reflected in the value of a potential. For oxidation potentials, there are also data that these potentials are not sensitive to diastereoisomerism (Fukui et al. 2007). [Pg.107]

This case shows the potential need for concomitant mineralocorticoid receptor blockade when mifepristone is used to treat Cushing s syndrome, since mineralocorticoid concentrations can rise markedly, reflecting corticotropin disinhibition. [Pg.286]

The double helix is a relatively stiff and elongated molecule. Consequently, a solution of DNA has a high viscosity. If such a solution is heated to 95°C, the viscosity drops markedly, reflecting a collapse of the double-helical structure. This is known as denaturation and is accompanied by separation of the duplex into its single strands, which are fairly flexible. Denaturation and renaturation provide valuable information on important properties of the DNA obtained from various sources. Denaturation also provides the basis for very precise and sensitive approaches to the identification of specific sequences in both DNA and RNA. This has been central to the rapid developments in molecular genetics. [Pg.212]

Initial atom coordinates for the refinement were taken from single crystal data of related SAPO-34.5 For both as-synthesised materials it was essential to incorporate a template into the model otherwise the refinement was not stable. Thermal parameters were refined isotropically and no restrictions were used. Crystal data and refinement results of both as-synthesised materials are given in Table 1 and final Rietveld plots (crosses represent experimental points, solid line is calculated curve below is the difference vertical lines mark reflection positions) are presented on Figures 2 and 3. [Pg.235]

Analysis of cohorts in a multi-site study coordinated by the EMCDDA shows substantial differences in mortality and causes of death between locations. In cities with high HIV infection among drug users, the impact of AIDS from the mid-1980s has raised mortality rates. In Barcelona (Figure 14), mortality reached over 50 per 1 000 users per year from 1 992 to 1 996 before falling markedly, reflecting a drop in AIDS deaths (probably because of new antiretroviral treatments) and, to a lesser extent, in overdose deaths. [Pg.19]

Coke (C) forms irregular to round particles of me dium reflectivity with a yellowish hue and marked reflection pleochroism of yellowish white to dark gray. [Pg.41]

They demonstrate a degree of ecological separation in that they tend to spend the majority of their time at different levels in the forest and move along different substrates (Petter, 1962 Jolly, 1966). This study demonstrates that their scent marking reflects this partitioning of the environment thus minimizing interference between the chemical messages deposited by each species. [Pg.647]

The sifaka were never observed to change levels in order to deposit a scent mark. They scent marked at all levels of the forest except when they were on the ground 13% of their 174 marks were at the shrub level, 23% at the small tree level, and 64% at the closed canopy level. Thus, the vertical placement of their marks reflects their positioning in the forest for all activities. [Pg.649]

For a series of esters of propranolol, esterases from different tissues displayed varying rates of hydrolysis towards esters of the R and S forms of the drug. Plasma esterases hydrolysed the R esters at about ten times the rate of the S esters, where the rate of hydrolysis was rapid (Table 5.6). In the case of the hindered piva-late ester the rate of hydrolysis was much slower and the chiral discrimination was much reduced. Chiral discrimination by liver and intestinal esterases favoured hydrolysis of the S esters but was less marked, reflecting... [Pg.101]
