Manways, weights

The weight of the vessel and fittings can be calculated from the preliminary design sketches. The weights of standard vessel components heads, shell plates, manways, branches and nozzles, are given in various handbooks Megyesy (2001) and Brownell and Young (1959). 

Cv = a factor to account for the weight of nozzles, manways, internal supports, etc which can be taken as = 1.08 for vessels with only a few internal fittings,... 

The completed vessel will include the weights of nozzles, a manway and reinforcing around the openings, which may total another 10-20%. The weights of these auxiliaries are stated in manufacturers catalogs. 

In addition to the shell and heads, contributions to the weight of a vessel include nozzles, manways, any needed internals, and...

As design loadings have increased, the spacing of beams has decreased. The height, width and thus weight of beams has increased, as well as the cost. This in turn has led to increasing the manway size to accommodate deeper beams while the access between the beams has become smaller and smaller. The hub ring can provide an innovative solution to this problem.
