Manifold standard plate

Plate manifolds. The standard plate manifold (Figure 4.60) has a flow channel which is usually drilled in the axis of symmetry of the plate.

The benzene strip or extract solutions are evaporated nearly to dryness in 500-ml. standard-taper Erlenmeyer flasks on 3 units of a 6-unit variable heat extraction apparatus hot plate (see Figure 1). Evaporation is hastened by directing a jet of air at the surface of the benzene, gentle enough to avoid spattering when maintained 0.5 inch above the surface of the liquid. The benzene vapors are removed through a manifold connected to the house vacuum. On this apparatus 250 ml. of sample can be reduced to a volume of about 5 ml. in 10 minutes. 

When direct spotting onto a thin layer plate is used, an automatic spotter is necessary 7). It utilizes six tubes which transfer the eluting solvent in a dropwise manner to the origin. The size of the spot is controlled by the flow of an inert gas from a manifold. Three standards and three unknowns are spotted onto a 20 x 20 cm plate. 

In order to achieve flexibility, faster development, and to reduce the design and installation cost, a new standard, the ISA/ANSI 76.00.02 was developed [28]. This system defines a modular sample conditioning system that can be assembled on a manifold plate using components that follow the size and connectivity protocols in the ISA/ANSI standard. Companies such as Parker Instrumentation (Jacksonville, AL) (Figure 37.20) and CIRCOR Instrumentation (Joliet, IL) (Figure 37.21) produce pressure reducers, gauges, flow meters, different types of valves, safety devices, and many other components that comply with the footprint and connectivity definitions of the ANSI/IS A 76 standard. 

Manifolds may be manufactured in a standard mould plate and supplied by the manufacturer, or manufactured and installed using a standard catalogue drawing by the mould manufacturer. It is recommended that extra cooling channels be located between the flow channel and the mould cavity.
