Manganese nitrosyl porphyrins [215] are considered good models for the iron-nitric oxide analogs, which are relatively unstable but very vital to many biological operations. A six-coordinate manganese nitrosyl porphyrin of the form (por)Mn(NO)(L), where por can be TTP (TTP = tetra(4-methylphenyl)porphine) and L = piperidine, methanol, 1-methyhmidazole, has been prepared [216] in moderate yields by the reductive nitrosylation of the (por)MnCl complex with NO in piperidine. The crystal structures of these compounds give indication of a linear Mn-NO bond [215]. 

The electrophilic 0x0 of the Hangman platform is also susceptible to nucleophilic attack by the two-electron bond of olefins. The reaction parallels the peroxide shunt cycle (198-200) of cytochrome P450 and peroxidase enzymes while building on the results of the observed biomimetic catalase activity. In 1989, Volz reported the isolation of an iodosylbenzene complex of [(TDCPP) MnCl] from the reaction of the components at —78°C (Scheme 9) [35]. The crystalline compound could epoxidize olefins, oxygenate cyclohexane, and oxidize triphenylphosphine. Interestingly, reaction of this material with ammonia led to the formation of the manganese(V) nitrido complex [(TDCPP)Mn=Nj. In 1992, Volz reported details for related CgFsIO complexes [36].
