For heat entering the blood division, subtract Phragmites and Mint and add Tuber Ophiopogonis Japonicae Mai Dong), raw Radix Rehmanniae Sheng Di), Rhizoma Polygonati Odorati Yu Zhu), and Cortex Radicis Moutan Dan Pi). 

If the disease has been harassing the lungs for 2-3 days and heat is now entering the interior, add raw Radix Rehmanniae (Sheng Di), and Tuber Ophiopogonis Japonicae (Mai Dong) to protect fluids and humors. 

For dry cough, add Tuber Ophiopogonis Japonicae (Mai Dong) and Caulis In Taeniis Bambusae (ZhuRu). 

For severe thirst with a red tongue, add Tuber Ophiopogonis Japonicae Mai Dong), Radix Glehniae Littoralis ShaShen), Herba Dendrobii Shi Hu), and Rhizoma Anemarrhenae ZhiMu). 

For dryness in the upper burner due to damp heat below, add Radix Glehniae Littoralis (Sha Shen) and Tuber Ophiopogonis Japonicae Mai Dong). 

Again for blood vacuity complicated by heat, add Radix Scutellariae Baicalensis (Huang Qiri), Rhizoma Coptidis Chinensis (Huang Lian), and Tuber Ophiopogonis Japonicae (Mai Dong). This results in Qin Lian Si Wu Tang (Scutellaria Coptis Four Materials Decoction). 

Also for stomach yin vacuity, add Tuber Ophiopogonis Japonicae (Mai Dong), Radix Glehniae Littoralis (Sha Shen), Rhizoma Phragmitis Communis (Lu Gen), and Folium Eriobotryae Japonicae (Pi Pa Ye).
