Magneto-Responsive Polymers

E.A., Yiu, H.H.P., Rosseinsky, M.J., and Weaver, J.V.M. (2011) Multi-responsive polymer-stabilized magnetic engineered emulsions as liquid-based switchable magneto-responsive actuators. Soft Matter, 7, 4335-4340. [Pg.218]

As in the case of the LC polymer mentioned above, Riou et al. used anisotropic ferromagnetic NPs (Riou et al. 2012) in order to achieve a strong orientational coupling between magnetic nanoparticles and the liquid crystal medium and maximize the torque induced by the applied magnetic field on the medium. They described the synthesis of a LCE and showed the potential for this new kind of material. In order to obtain the desired magneto-responsive character, the synthesis of monodomain samples, where Co nanorods were oriented parallel to the nematic vector, must be further developed. [Pg.519]
