In rare instances patients with hydantoin-induced lymphadenopathy have gone on to develop progressive manifestations of invasive lymphoid disease with classic manifestations of Hodgkin s disease or other forms of lymphoma at autopsy. Whether this represents the de novo development of lymphoma or the chance association of phenytoin use with spontaneously developing lymphoma is not clear.
