Luminosity curves

By measuring a number of individual observers, we can obtain what we call a "Standard Luminosity Curve". Photopic vision peaks at 5500 A whereas scotopic vision peaks at 5200 A. 

We finally arrive at the result we want, since we can now set up "Tristimulus Filters" to use in defining colors. We can now define "y as our standard luminosity curve for the human eye (photopic vision). Note that x, the red tristimulus value, has a certain amount of blue in it in order to duplicate the response of the red preceptor in the retina. 

Luminosity curves for PETN of loading d 1.60 detonated in vacuum are represented nere. The left curve was photographed, using optical filters, with transmission maxima at A=6870, while for the right one A was 4510. In this type of curve, the intensities of the peaks with maximum deflection during the deton interval were used for the evaluation of temperature of detonation... 

Similar tests were conducted for Tetryl of loading d 1.60 and for TNT of d 1.55. Their luminosity curves for deton in air at atm pressure are given below. The left curves were taken using optical filters with transmission maxima at A=6870A, while the right ones used A= 4510 (Ref 5, Progr-Rept, Apr-June 1949)...

The degree of the stimulation to the red sense organ is denoted by X, to the green by Y and to the blue by Z. We call the values "tristimulus values". The value of Y is also used to denote the brilliancy of the light, because the relative luminosity curve of the pyramids coincides with the stimulus curve of the green sense organ relatively.
