Loyal Huggins

Maurice Huggins received training in the laboratory of G.N. Lewis at the University of California, Berkeley. He received his B.S., with a written thesis, in 1919, and his Ph.D. with Charles Porter in 1922. He was in the chemistry department at Johns Hopkins until 1936. His undergraduate interest in hydrogen bridges was fully developed and in 1936 he published a seminal article in the first volume of the Journal of Organic Chemistry on the topic [3]. [Pg.60]

He took a job with Kodak Research Laboratories in 1936. He developed an intense interest in the effect of hydrogen bridges on the structure of crystalline proteins and published a review article on this topic in 1943.
