Loline biosynthesis

The biosynthesis of the lolines has been almost completely elucidated though a few questions remain. The pathway is diverging from the one leading to normal pyrrolizidine alkaloids (see Sect. 3.7). A decisive intermediate is represented by the... [Pg.267]

There are no reported studies of loline alkaloid biosynthesis. Loline has been thought to arise via spermidine and retronecine (1) (21) however, this pathway would require loss of a carbon, possibly via a Curtlus type rearrangement, to form the norpyrrolizidine system found in loline-type alkaloids. There is no literature precedent for such a rearrangement in alkaloid... [Pg.332]
