Litz wire

The toroid should have an overall wire gauge of 12AWG. I will use 100 strand Litz wire to minimize the skin effeets. 

Where can we find thick copper braids Well, I tend to use regular solder wick lying around the lab. I am fairly convinced by now that if I partially soak some solder into it, it works great as a high-frequency shunt. I won t be caught ordering Litz wire just yet. 

In this section, an analytical model is presented to calculate the of a coil with given geometry parameters. In order to reduce the AC resistance, and thereby the Q at high frequencies, litz wire is widely used in biomedical power telemetry to transmit both power and data, as shown in Fig. 29.

Older TMAs are not fitted with motors, but rely upon a top-loading scalepan for the application of force. In TMA the force is constant for all classic experiments, therefore the manual arrangement is quite satisfactory for this work. In DMAs and more modern TMAs a voice coil type motor is employed. This comprises a light coil and former, connected via fine wires, often made from Litz wire. This assembly is either supported by springs or the drive arrangement is supported by an air bearing. Conceptually it is similar to the design of a loudspeaker.
