Lithium triethylmethoxide

Typically, the reaction is carried out in aliphatic hydrocarbons, benzene or in an excess of alkene, at — 20 to 0 °C. Historically this was the first method for the synthesis of 1,1-dichloro-cyclopropanes it is very fast, but suffers from the irreversible generation of dichlorocarbene and, hence, affords the products in rather low yields in the case of relatively unreactive alkenes. Later, in place of potassium fert-butoxide, lithium triethylmethoxide, which is soluble in hydrocarbon solvents, was used. For less reactive alkenes this method gives good yields of products. ... [Pg.620]

As an alternative method for the preparation of polyalcohols from organoboron polymers, dichloromethyl methyl ether (DCME) can be used (23). Various organoboron polymers prepared by hydroboration polymerization of dienes and thexylborane were reacted with DCME at 0°C in THF followed by treatment with lithium triethylmethoxide. After oxidative treatment with NaOH and H2O2, the corresponding poly(alcohol)s were obtained. The... [Pg.403]
