Bilirubin is often present in the liquor amnii when the fetus is affected by hemolytic disease of the newborn (B5). Walker (Wl) examined fresh specimens of amniotic fluid before the 35th week and found that the presence of bilirubin correctly indicated the disease in 94.5 Jo of his afflicted cases.

A column of ice has been feen to reach down the cefophagus from the mouth to the ftomach in a frozen fetus 5 and this ice was the liquor amnii frozen. 

The meconium, or firft feces, in the bowels of new-born infants evince, that fomething has been digefted and what could this be but the liquor amnii together with the recrements of the gaftric juice and gall, which were neceflary for its digeftion ... 

On the introduction of this primordium of entity into the uterus the irritation of the liquor amnii, which furrounds it, excites the abforbent mouths of the new veffcls into aCtion they drink up a part of it, and a pleafiirable fenfation accompanies this new aCtion at the fame time the chemical affinity of the oXygene aCls through the veffels of the rubefeent blood and a previous want, or difagreeable fenfation, is relieved by this procefs.
