Texas lignite liquefaction

Liquid sulfur dioxide was used to separate the liquefaction products from Texas lignite when Tetralin had been used as the hydrogen donor solvent. The large excess of Tetralin present with the lignite liquefaction products did not interfere with the liquid sulfur dioxide separation procedure. The chemical composition of the fractions were similar to that of SRC and SRL. 

Liquefaction. In this volume Philip et al. (24) have discussed laboratory studies on the liquefaction behavior of Texas lignite, hence we do not cover this subject here. 

Direct combustion has been used with Texas lignite on a utility scale since the 1950 s. However, in the past ten years there has been considerable testing of Texas lignite in alternative energy processes such as fluidized bed combustion, gasification, and direct liquefaction. We summarize activities in each area below.
