The delipidated serum lipoprotein proteins exhibit solubility differences in aqueous media. The polypeptides of HDL and the D polypeptides of VLDL are readily soluble in aqueous media, particularly in slightly alkaline low-ionic strength buffers (S28, S30). In contrast, the LDL protein does not dissolve in such buffers and, like many other water-insoluble proteins, requires denaturing agents, detergents, or suitable chemical modification. The many techniques for the solubilization of apo LDL have been reviewed recently (G15). A thorough assessment of such techniques is not possible since not all the solubilized products have been characterized. The choice of the method presently depends on the investigator s preference and experimental needs. [Pg.119]

With the establishment of techniques for isolation and characterization of lipoprotein proteins, further definition of the lipoprotein changes in biliary obstruction ought to be possible. Furman et al. (1961) have exposed in vitro sera from subjects with biliary obstruction to sonic forces. Cholesterol and phospholipid contents of the LDL class diminished while a comparable increase of these lipids in the HDL class occurred. These data were interpreted to indicate that in obstructive jaundice serum LDL and HDL are to a certain extent associated. [Pg.112]

This chapter considers the nutritional consequences of polyunsaturated lipids in the diet on free radical reactions in biological systems and diseases. The term lipid peroxidation is now used broadly to include both non-enzymatic and enzymatic oxidative reactions of free fatty acids, phospholipids, triacylglycerols, cholesterol and cholesteryl esters, lipoproteins, proteins,... [Pg.391]

AMlc, Dihydro AMI, AM 19, and AM4N) tend to bind to lipoproteins, protein precipitation and solid-phase extraction are necessary prior to reverse-phase chromatographic analysis. The drug and its metabohtes (which exhibit patient-specific patterns) are detected by MS in the form of sodium adducts after EL Hepatotoxic potential has been confirmed and strong correlation between AM19 and CRP and IL6 observed. [Pg.283]
