Lipid antiserum

Antiserum to ECA is not generally produced by the inununisation of animals with whole formalinised cells. This is because ECA is in a haptenic form, and unable to elicit an antibody response. Only in strains lacking an O-side chain where it is found linked to the LPS core oligosaccharide is it immunogenic. The ECA molecule consists of a lipid portion of poorly defined compositon linked to a linear polymer of l- 4 linked AZ-acetyl-D-glucosamine and AZ-acetyl-D-mannosamine-uronic acid. [Pg.175]

This temperature dependency of inhibition does not only occur with lipid and carotenoid antisera but is also observed with protein antisera. Figure 4 shows the temperature dependence of the degree of inhibition for a glycoproteid antiserum. [Pg.578]

Acyl carrier protein (ACP) Is the best characterized protein In plant lipid metabolism. The stability and relative ease of purification of ACP have resulted In It being the first protein of plant fatty acid synthesis (FAS) to be purified to homogeneity (1), to have specific antiserum raised against It (2), and to have amino acid sequence data available (3-5). To date, ACP has been purified from spinach, avocado, castor bean, barley, rapeseed and soybean (6, and J. Ohlrogge, unpublished data.)... [Pg.689]
