Liniment of Ammonia

Counter-lrritante. Substances applied to tho surface of the body to establish a. secondary morbid action, with the view of relieving one already existing. Those best known aro bli.stcrs, mustard poultic, hartshorn aud oil, and liniment of ammonia. 

Iiotion for Galls. Vinegar and spirit of wine, of each 4 ounces sugar of lead, i ounce water, J pint mix. Or Soap liniment and solution of acetate of ammonia, equal parts. Or Sal-ammoniac, 1 ounce muriatic a< id, 3 drachms water, 1 pint. Used by farriers for saddle-galls or warbles. 

Liniment for Old Bheumatic Pains. A powerful liniment for old rheumatic pains, especially when affecting the loins, is the following Camphorated oil and spirits of turpentine, of each 2 parts water of ammonia, 1 part laudanum, I part to bo well shaken together. 

Dissolve the camphor in the spirit, shake the olive oil with the solution of ammonia, and mix the whole together, so as to form a liniment. 

Ammoniated Liniment of Camphor, jB.P.C. A mixture of camphor and ammonia in alcohol containing oil of lavender. Ammonia may be determined by adding 5 ml to an excess of 0-5N acid and back-titrating with 0-5N sodium hydroxide to methyl red. 1 ml 0 5N = 0 008515 g. 

DdCcXieaa s Heuralgric Liniment. Mix together 4 grains extract of belladonna, 6 fluid ounces ammonia water, h fluid ounce oil of turpentine, h fluid ounce olive oil, and 2 fluid ouuces tincture of opium. Apply during the paroxvsnis. 

Introduce 20 ml of liniment into a separator, add 30 ml of water and make slightly alkaline with ammonia. Extract three times with a mixture of 7 volumes of ether and one volume of chloroform. Extract the combined solvents with three portions of dilute acid, make the acid extracts alkaline and extract the alkaloids as usual with chloroform. Wash, evaporate and titrate as directed under Belladonna Herb.
