Linear system, three-term

The n system is made up from the three pz orbitals on the carbon atoms. The linear combination of these orbitals takes the form of Equation 1.9, with three terms, creating a pattern of three molecular orbitals, tpi, ip2 and 3. In the allyl cation there are two electrons left to go into the n system after filling the a framework (and in the radical, three, and in the anion, four). [Pg.23]

Example 8.1 Guideline for Linearity We wish to establish a guideline for the perturbation amplitude needed to maintain linearity under potentiostatic regulation. An electrochemical system that follows a Tafel law is polarized at a potential V. If a large potential sinusoidal modulation is superimposed, write the current response in the form of a Taylor series and calculate the complete expression of the dc current. By considering only the first three terms of the Taylor series, write the expression cf the current under the form of the first three harmonics. [Pg.134]

The second approach, successfully followed in the analysis of complex oscillations observed in the model of the multiply regulated biochemical system, relies on a further reduction that permits the description of the dynamics of the three-variable system in terms of a single variable only, by means of a Poincare section of the original system. Based on the one-dimensional map thus obtained from the differential system, a piecewise linear map can be constructed for bursting. The fit between the predictions of this map and the numerical observations on the three-variable differential system is quite remarkable. This approach allows us to understand the mechanism by which a pattern of bursting with n peaks per period transforms into a pattern with (n + 1) peaks. [Pg.506]

The results shown in Figs. 6.2 and 6.3 indicate that the system can be treated as a three-level one consisting of G), L), and H) and therefore, we expanded the state vector of the system in terms of the three adiabatic states. The initial nuclear WP was set to be the vibrational ground-state wave function of G), and the system is then electronically excited by a linearly polarized laser pulse e(f) of the form in Eq. 6.14. The time evolution of the expansion coefficients for k) k = G, L, and H), i/k (Q, t), where Q is the two-dimensional mass-weighted normal coordinate vector, can be obtained from the following coupled equations [32] ... [Pg.133]

The coefficient of ynm again has to be equal to zero, and just as in the previous equation we have a three-term recursion formula for the c , or a system of linear homogeneous equations of which the determinant has to be equal to zero. [Pg.182]

Equation 8c is a linear system of equations that is overdetermined with three-component seismic waveform data, even with low-pass filters applied. Writing this in terms of a system of linear equations, the following is obtained ... [Pg.722]
