Lime and epichlorhydrin process

Propylene is oxidized by HCIO yielding chlorohydrin, which is in cum saponified by a lime solution to give propylene oxide. 

Recently, a NaOH solution has replaced lime and has cut out a good part of the inorganic pollution due to lime.
