Lignin sulfonate specifications

A test developed specifically to detect lignin sulfonates consists of treating the solution with aniline. A precipitate that is insoluble in hydrochloric acid indicates the presence of the sulfonate (44). 

The purpose of this work was to investigate the nature of lignin in bleached mechanical pulp and sulfonated chemithermomechanical pulp (CTMP). Specifically, the purpose was to identify structures that may be responsible for photoyellowing. 

The sulfate esters and sulfonate derivatives of polysaccharides and lignin form chemical complexes with the enzyme pepsin. These complexes have no proteolytic activity.
