A tremendous increase in energy efficiency together with certain limitations regarding comfort and lifestyle permits a second age of fossil fuels. The carbon capture in coal power plants facilitates a long-term electricity production from coal. 

Automobiles cost more than 100 times the price of the battery, but the battery permits easy, reliable starting, allowing it to be a convenient mode of transportation for normal lifestyles. Indeed, batteries provide the only efficient small-scale devices for the storage of instantly available electrical energy. Dependent on batteries are all automobiles all telephone circuits most modem watches, calculators, and standby power sources most modem weapons systems for propulsion (torpedoes, for example), communication, and guidance systems space exploration (which also uses fuel cells) and implanted heart pacers. 

Thus we see that the food you eat, if converted with 100% efficiency to electricity, would only provide about -100 W per day, or the amount of power in a large light bulb. Considering that each person uses 11.1 RW of energy as a part of their daily lifestyle, we can see that food as fuel has large challenges to sustain our society. Thus, we need to looR to biomass, not just food, as energy sources.
