Levothyroxine hypersensitivity

Hypersensitivity A newly developed protocol of oral levothyroxine desensitisation was effective in preventing the rare event of levothyroxine hypersensitivity. [Pg.636]

A 35-year-old female with a history of levothyroxine hypersensitivity (generalised itchy skin rash, dyspnoea and palpitation 30 min after levothyroxine consumption) was successfully desensitised by following a protocol that reinitiated therapy with a dose of 0.01 gg levothyroxine (1 /10,000 of total daily dose) and gradually increased the dose at 30-min intervals over 2 days (up to 81.91 gg levothyroxine per day). Thereafter the patient was maintained on 75 gg levothyroxine [12 ]. [Pg.636]
