Lethal yessotoxin

Franchini, A. et al.. Lethal and sub-lethal yessotoxin dose-induced morpho-functional alterations in intraperitoneal injected Swiss CDl mice, Toxicon, 44, 83, 2004. [Pg.325]

Yessotoxin is a comparatively slow-acting poison. While deaths may occur within 30-50 min after injection of very high doses [55,67], at dose levels close to the LD50, animals may survive 10 h or more before succumbing [68]. Restlessness, shivering, and cramps have been reported in mice given lethal doses of yessotoxin [65,67]. Labored breathing and cyanosis preceded death [68]. [Pg.331]

No macroscopic changes were observed in mice dying after intraperitoneal injection of lethal doses of yessotoxin [67], In contrast, the livers of mice receiving di-desnlfoyessotoxin became swollen and yellow in color within hours of administration of toxic doses [69], Consistent with the color change, an increase in hepatic fat levels was recorded in animals dosed with di-desulfoyessotoxin... [Pg.332]
