Lee disc

The modern unguarded hot plate is based on the well known Lees disc method [II]. The general arrangement is shown schematically in Fig. 3. Recommendations are given in BS 874 [12] and ASTM C5I8 [13]. 

The cake baffle disc was patented more than 15 years ago by the then Pennwalt/Sharples company [7]. It has been variously known as the Lee disc (after the inventor), a BD disc, biological disc or a baffle disc.
