Lead mallets

For final tightening of the lock ring it is thus necessary to hit the spanner handle with a lead mallet or the like. If the tightening can be accomplished without using a mallet, the disc set is insufficiently clamped. 

A 25-cm long piece of lead tube is closed at one end by means of a wooden mallet and filled with a pyrotechnic formulation. The tube is tapped on a firm base while filling until it is filled completely. Then the open end is closed with a wooden mallet. The filled tube is then passed successively through 7 grooves and corresponding dies of a lead fuse machine. The lead tube is passed through the dies in descending order of the diameter 0.653, 0.584, 0.533, 0.490, 0,450, 0.422 and... 

Hammer the copper, lead, zinc, magnesium, and iron pieces with a wooden mallet. (The aluminum, tin, and silver should already be in thin sheets.)... 

The mallets arc made of boxwood and mild steel. The boxwood mallet weighs 25 oz. and the mild steel 34.5 oz. Moving pictures taken of the operator swinging the mallet lead to the claim that a velocity of 60 ft/sec is the average swing.
