Layered peptide array

Gannot G, Tangrea MA, Erickson HS, et al. Layered peptide array for multiplex immunohistochemistry./. Mol. Diagn. 2007 9 297-304. [Pg.86]

The study by low angle X-ray diffraction of these mesophases provides X-ray patterns exhibiting in their central region a set of sharp lines with Bragg spacings in the ratio 1,2,3,4,5.., characteristic of a layered structure. This lamellar structure results from the superposition of plane, parallel, equidistant sheets each sheet contains two layers one of thickness d/ formed by the carbohydrate block, the other of thickness d0 formed by the polypeptide blocks there is a partition of the solvent between the two layers 70 % of the solvent is localized in the carbohydrate layer [ ). Furthermore, in the polypeptide layer, the peptide chains are in an a helix conformation as is demonstrated by Infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction and are assembled on a bi-dimensional hexagonal array for copolymers with an 0 saccharide block as is revealed by X rays [6). [Pg.166]

For all copolymers studied (copolymers containing between 18 % and 83 % of polypeptide] the liquid crystalline structures are always lamellar and are very similar to the structure of saccharide-peptide block copolymers. In the lamellar structure of copolymers with a polyvinyl block and a hydrophobic polypeptide block, each sheet of thickness d results from the superposition of two layers one of thickness d/ formed by the polyvinyl chains in a more or less random coil conformation, the other of thickness dg formed by the polypeptide chains, in an a helix conformation, arranged in an hexagonal array, and generally folded ( 7, 8]. ... [Pg.167]
