Next, a 1 year subcutaneous implantation study in mice was performed (22). Small pieces of poly(N-palmitoylhydroxyproline ester) (approximately 10 mg per implant) were implanted subcutaneously in the dorsal area of the animals. Among crystals with stacking faults the lack of a periodic order is restricted to one dimension this is called a one-dimensional disorder. If only a few layer positions occur and all of them are projected into one layer, we obtain an averaged structure. Its symmetry can be described with a space group, albeit with partially occupied atomic positions. The real symmetry is restricted to the symmetry of an individual layer. The layer is a three-dimensional object, but it only has translational symmetry in two dimensions. Its symmetry is that of a layer group there exist 80 layer-group types. [Pg.28]

A two-dimensional disorder results when rod-like polymeric molecules are mutually shifted with statistical frequency. Translational symmetry then only exists in the direction of the molecules, and not in the transverse directions. The rod is a three-dimensional object with one-dimensional translational symmetry. Its symmetry is that of a rod group. Layer groups and rod groups are subperiodic groups. They are listed in detail in International Tables for Crystallography, Volume E. [Pg.28]

The assumption that the water is adsorbed in uniform layers on all the clay surfaces for a wide range of mixtures has been criticized (2, 20). The argument is that the individual clay particles in the clay-water mixture do not expand beyond a certain distance regardless of the quantity of water which is added. The clay layers group themselves into tactoids resulting in two populations of water those molecules which are found between the tactoids and those directly perturbed by the clay layers. If true, this would invalidate the procedure used to calculate the thermodynamic properties of the adsorbed water. However, other workers have reported complete delamination of certain smectites (21., 22). It is not clear under what conditions tactoids will form, or not, and this uncertainty is underlined in (21) (see remarks by Nadeau and Fripiat, pages 146-147). [Pg.42]

In Godong Block 8, which belonged to the Godong field, Sinopec, polymer was injected into two separate layer groups Ng 3 and Ng 5-6. There were 44 injection wells and 90 production wells in a line-drive pattern. The distance between wells was 106 m, and the distance between injection fine and producer line was 212 m.
