Lattice oxygen dynamics

Hu and Ruckenstein s results (130) showed that on the reduced nickel-containing catalyst, the reaction took place by a Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism involving adsorbed CH4 and oxygen species. Furthermore, they indicated that a slow dynamic redox process consisting of lattice oxygen formation and its reduction by carbon species was at least partly responsible for the CO formation. [Pg.342]

Based on the experimental data and some speculations on detailed elementary steps taking place over the catalyst, one can propose the dynamic model. The model discriminates between adsorption of carbon monoxide on catalyst inert sites as well as on oxidized and reduced catalyst active sites. Apart from that, the diffusion of the subsurface species in the catalyst and the reoxidation of reduced catalyst sites by subsurface lattice oxygen species is considered in the model. The model allows us to calculate activation energies of all elementary steps considered, as well as the bulk... [Pg.220]

Recently, Vigil and Willmore [67] have reported mean field and lattice gas studies of the oscillatory dynamics of a variant of the ZGB model. In this example oscillations are also introduced, allowing the reversible adsorption of inert species. Furthermore, Sander and Ghaisas [69] have very recently reported simulations for the oxidation of CO on Pt in the presence of two forms of oxygen, namely chemisorbed atomic O and oxidized metal surface. These species, which are expected to be present for reaction under atmospheric pressure, are relevant for the onset of oscillatory behavior [69]. [Pg.406]
