Laser Doppler vibrometer

The brief history, operation principle, and applications of the above-mentioned techniques are described in this chapter. There are several other measuring techniques, such as the fluorometry technique. Scanning Acoustic Microscopy, Laser Doppler Vibrometer, and Time-of-flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy, which are successfully applied in micro/nanotribology, are introduced in this chapter, too.

The acceleration at selected locations on the sample can also be measin-ed using a laser Doppler vibrometer (LDV) (187). The advantage of the LDV is that it is a noncontact measurement and does not disturb the vibration of the sample. Reference 187 describes a measurement setup that operates in the freqnency range 500-2500 Hz, temperature range 0-40°C, and at pressnres up to 500 psi.
