Albert Ghiorso ( 1915) together with Torbjorn Sikkeland, Almon Larsh, and Robert M. Latimer obtained the element by bombarding californium 1 with boron ions. 

Lawrencium (Lr, Rn 5fu6dlls2), named after the scientist Ernest O. Lawrence (the inventor of the cyclotron). Prepared (1961) by Albert Ghiorso, Almon E. Larsh and Robert M. Latimer.

Named after Ernest 0. Lawrence, lawrencium was first synthesized in 1961 by the team of Albert Ghiorso, Torbjprn Sikkeland, Almon E. Larsh, and R. M. Latimer at the Rerkeley Laboratory of the University of California. They bombarded californium with boron ions. The longest lasting isotope of lawrencium has a half-life of 35 seconds, just long enough to test its oxidation rate and to confirm its status as an element.
