The possibility of increasing the coordination number of rhenium(VI) from six to eight was shown by the formation of the anion [ReMe8]2, which was generated from ReMe6 and two equivalents of methyllithium in diethyl ether at —78°C [79]. 

5 An Apparent Conflict Metal Alkyls and Aryls Containing a- and r-Donor Ligands 

Mononuclear paramagnetic complexes of type IV with rhenium in the oxidation VI have been reported for R = Mes and Xyl. They were prepared either from (Me3NH)Re04 or Me3Si0Re03 and RMgBr in THF at —78°C, followed by oxidation of the isolated rhenium(V) intermediates [Re02R2]2Mg(THF)2 

The Re—O distances of the central Re—O—Re unit of Mc6Rc202(p.-0) were in agreement with some double bond character [132].
