Lanthanum III triflate

Finally, the formation of methyl ketones (205) by displacement of Af,Af-dimethoxy-amine from At,Af-dimethoxyamides (204) using methyl lanthanum(III) triflate has been reported. However, under the reaction conditions employed, further alkylation occurs to give the alcohols (206) (equation 29) °. 

Of interest also is the aqueous Reformatsky cross-coupling reaction between a-halo ketones or aldehydes and carbonyl compounds in the presence of zinc, tin and indium. Like the Barbier-type reactions, indium was found to be the most efficient metal and it strongly reduced undesirable side reactions such as the reduction of the halide [134]. As usual in aqueous reactions implicating carbonyl compounds, lanthanum(III) triflate promoted the reaction [146]. 

Enantioselective nitroaldol reaction (Henry reaction) of simple trifluoromethyl ketone was reported by Tur and Saa [27] (Table 8.7). Reaction of trifluoromethyl ketones with nitromethane in the presence of lanthanum (III) triflate salt complex and Proton Sponge (1) (0.25 equiv. each) gave tertiary nitroaldols in 50-93% yields with... 

A 1 1 mixture of benzonitrile and ammonia gas (as co-catalyst) heated at 200° in a stainless steel sealed tube for 24 h in the presence of 1 % yttrium(III) triflate 2,4,6-triphenyl-.s -triazine. Y 100%. The method is excellent for aryl- and hetaryl-derivs. of the aliphatic nitriles studied only acetonitrile and cyclopropanecarbonitrile gave good yields in other cases there was significant rearrangement to 4-amino-2,5,6-trialkylpyrimidines.
