The main deposits of freshwater diatomite were laid down in large lakes. Many of these deposits in the western United States formed during glacial times, when the local climate was wetter. Several tens of square kilometers in Nevada west of Tonopah are covered with diatomite as are other large areas in the Great Basin. [Pg.56]

A strong positive correlation exists between Cu, Ag, Co, Au, W, and Se in the B and C horizon soil and suggests that these elements are geochemical pathfinders for sulfide mineralization at the Shiko Lake mineral occurrence. Glacial dispersal of Cu and Co in C horizon soil samples is characterized by the shape of geochemical profiles. These typically... [Pg.22]

At the White Lake Cu-Zn sulfide deposit (near Flin Flon, Manitoba) no geochemical signature had been obtained from conventional soil geochemistry. Where the deposit is overlain by 23m of barren rock and 8m of glacial overburden including an upper 1m of impermeable varved clay, a strong characteristic rabbit-ear H anomaly clearly indicates the location of the orebody, as predicted by the electrochemical model (Govett 1976). [Pg.48]

In the Bow River basin, estimates of total fluxes of some POCs based on measured concentrations in inflow, outflow, and air suggest that for most POCs volatilization is more important than outflow in removing contaminants from the lake [49]. However, mass balances suggest that outputs are somehow overestimated by the methods used, and it is unclear in which loss process or processes this overestimation lies or lie. Nonetheless, the measured concentrations of all POCs analyzed were lower in the outflow water than in the glacial inflow, but higher than the other inflow streams. [Pg.165]
