L-Glucuronic acid

The role, if any, of L-glucuronic acid in the metabolism of myo-inositol in vivo is unknown, since this acid has not been found in Nature nor been used in metabolic studies. Apparently, however, the d and l enantiomorphs of glucuronic acid are formed from myoinositol by separate enzymes.131... 

The PhEur 2005 describes alginic acid as a mixture of polyuronic acids [(CgHgOeU composed of residues of D-mannuronic and L-glucuronic acid, and is obtained mainly from algae belonging to the Phaeophyceae. A small proportion of the carboxyl groups may be neutralized. 

Alginate is a family of linear anionic polysaccharides, which can be considered as copolymers of (1 4) linked a-l-glucuronic acid (G) and p-d-mannuronic acid (M)... 

The building blocks are D-galactose, L-rhamnose, D-galacturonic acid, and L-glucuronic acid. The sugars are partially acetylated (13% acetyl groups based on dry weight). The molecule consists of three main chains which are polymers of different disaccharide units (cf. Formula 4.143). The main chains carry side chains and are also covalently linked via the side chains. 

Gum ghatti is the calcium and magnesium salt of a complex polysaccharide which contains L-arabinose, D-galactose, D-mannose, and D-xylose and D-glucuronic acid (48) and has a molecular weight of approximately 12,000. On dispersion in water, gum ghatti forms viscous solutions of viscosity intermediate between those of gum arabic and gum karaya. These dispersions have emulsification and adhesive properties equivalent to or superior to those described for gum arabic.

Monosaccharides can be oxidized enzymatically at C-6, yielding uronic acids, such as D-glucuronic and L-iduronic acids (Figure 7.10). L-Iduronic acid is similar to D-glucuronic acid, except for having an opposite configuration at C-5. Oxidation at both C-1 and C-6 produces aldaric acids, such as D-glucaric... 

The NMR spectrum of the dry sample showed broad unresolved peaks that correspond to a typical mixture of 4-O-methyl-D-glucuronic acid, L-arabinose and D-xylose, and proteins (Oliveira et al., 2010) (Figure 5). 

In the cell-wall antigen from Staphylococcus aureus M, taurine is linked as an amide (51) to a 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-galactosyluronic residue. l-Threonine and L-glutamic acid are linked as amides to D-glucuronic acid residues in the LPS from Rhodopseudomonas sphaeroides ATCC 17023 and in the capsular polysaccharide from Klebsiella K82, respectively. In the capsular polysaccharide from E. coli K54, L-serine and L-threonine, in the ratio 1 9, are linked to the carboxyl group of a D-glucuronic acid residue.
