Kuiper Airborne Observatory

Hydrogen chloride is the first chlorine-bearing interstellar molecule to have been detected. Its lowest rotational transition (J = 1 -> 0) at 625.9 GHz has been observed in the Orion Molecular Cloud (OMC-1) in emission with the Kuiper Airborne Observatory, (Blake, Keene, and Phillips, 1985) since atmospheric opacity at this... [Pg.130]

LAMELLAR GRATING INTERFEROMETRY AT 50y TO BEYOND 600y FROM THE GERARD P. KUIPER AIRBORNE OBSERVATORY... [Pg.94]

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration s Gerard P. Kuiper Airborne Observatory has now been operational for approximately one year. During that time it has provided550 hours of observing time at altitudes of 13-14 km to 14 separate research groups. The experiments flown include photometers and spectrometers designed for observations in spectral bands ranging from 1-lOOOy. [Pg.169]

Water has strong absorption bands around 1.45,1.95 and 2.50 pm. Mumma et al. 1986 [241] reported on the detection of water vapor in Halley s comet. Nine spectral lines around 2.65 pm were found by means of a Fourier transform spectrometer on the NASA-Kuiper Airborne Observatory. The water production rate was about 6 X 10 molecules per second on 22.1 December and 1.7 x 10 molecules per second on 24.1 December UT in 1985. [Pg.117]
