A premix is required for these mills. The mill paste normally has a consistency of 90-140 Kreb units. The mill base should be smooth and free from lumps, since the residence or dwell time in the mill is very short. The vehicle solids for the paste can be as low as 20% for low oil absorption pigments and up to as high as 75% vehicle solids for high absorption pigments. The capacity of the mill will vary with viscosity of the paste. [Pg.1300]

The consistency of the mill base may vary from 70 to 140 Kreb units. This is in the same range as the viscosity used in ball mills so that ball mill bases are easily applied to the sand mill. However, the vehicle solids in the sand mill base is usually higher than in the ball mill formulation. [Pg.1306]

Krebs Unit n An unit used in reporting viscosity measurements made with the weight-driven Stormer Viscometer used primarily for evaluating the viscosity of formulated paint and coating materials. A Krebs unit is the weight in grams that will turn a paddle-type rotor, submerged in the sample, 100 revolutions in 30 s. [Pg.414]
