Kinetics of degradation

Degradation by co-metabolism starts immediately and follows a first-order kinetic progress. A plot of log concentration against time will follow a straight line, whereas degradation when adaptation must first occur follows a somewhat more complicated pattern. There will be a lag period with slow degradation, followed by a more or less logarithmic phase. At very low [Pg.167]

In what is to follow, we first discuss Simha s scheme and its exact solution Then a brief discussion of the different breakage models will be given together with a description of the fit procedure Finally, this detailed evaluation of data will be com- [Pg.13]

The solution of Eq. (18) can be obtained by solving the eigenvalue problem of matrix. By linear transformation of n(t) [Pg.13]

Since A is triangular, the eigenvalues kj are directly given by the diagonal elements in agreement with the above considerations. For calculating the matrix C of eigenvectors, we rewrite Eq. (26) to obtain  [Pg.14]

Choice of Cj J = 1 in Eq. (32) again leads to a set of j — k independent equations for jk unknown coefficients C. j. For i k the remainder of the C.. may be assessed as shown above. Therefore, it is clear that the matrix C can be calculated without approximations in all cases. In addition, we have shown that C always assumes a triangular shape. [Pg.15]

The kinetics of degradation processes in foodstuffs are not simulated by the accelerated shelf-life testing method in the same way. Different parameters like Uw value, pH value, acidity levels, sulphur compounds, etc. affect flavour degradation in the foodstuff very individually therefore, a careful transfer of results is absolutely essential. The tested products have to be clustered depending on their ingredients and parameters for the accelerated testing have to be adapted (Fig. 21.10). [Pg.479]

Borja and Banks studied the kinetics of the anaerobic digestion of fruit processing wastewater (COD = 5.1 g/l). They used several substrata as scaffolds for the development of degrading colonies of bacteria. The kinetics of degradation were compared with the kinetics of a suspended biomass. The first order rate constant was determined and is shown in Figure 5.13. While the rate for the polyurethane was lower than rates for the sepiolite and saponite, some of the improvements we suggested and an improvement in mass transport could improve the rates of reaction. In any case, the paper of Borja and Banks suggests effect on kinetics exerted by the substratum. [Pg.122]

It was found that the scission of terminal double bounds contributes to the thermal degradation much more than random scission (48). Thus, hydrogenation results in a markedly decrease of the kinetics of degradation. [Pg.163]
