Key Organic Chemistry Terms and Reactions

The key term to look for in these questions is the word burn. Combustion reactions can occur with different types of materials, but the most common and the most widely used on the AP test is combustion of hydrocarbons. While the products are easily predictable, you have to have an understanding of organic chemistry nomenclature (we will discuss that later in the book) to be able to write the formulas of the reactants. 

A work of moderate value is the Glossary of Organic Chemistry by S. Patai (Interscience, 1962) written for the non-specialist which defines a large number of terms, name reactions and certain analytical and colour tests giving where applicable the formula and reactions. It also contains a key list of review publications, general textbooks in physical and theoretical organic chemistry, and various monographs. 

Homogeneous catalysis is a very important research field within inorganic chemistry [1, 2]. Transition metal complexes are able to catalyze a large number of organic reactions, and they therefore provide the key to the synthesis of many industrially relevant products. Homogeneous catalysis is not yet economically as important in terms of sheer size as its heterogeneous alternative, but its relative use has been growing steadily for the last 40 years.
