Kearns

Blum and Kearns (1) showed in the American cockroach that topically applied pyrethrum shows a negative temperature coefficient of action between 15° and 35°C. The 24-hour LDso for pyrethrum is about 1 g. at 15°C. and about 6 Mg- at 35°C. [Pg.49]

Clyde Kearns (personal communication) suggests that the first step in the possible detoxification of pyrethrins, including the cinerins as well as the pyrethrins, is the epoxidation of the double bond. [Pg.52]

Many mixing models which utilize the simplified concepts of micro-mixing and segregation have been introduced. Most notable of these are the two-environment models of Chen and Fan (19), Kearns and Manning (20), and others (21, 22), and the dispersion models of Spielman and Levenspiel (23), and Kattan and Adler (24). [Pg.297]

Resistance of house flies (Musca domestica) to DDT was attributed to its transformation to the nontoxic DDE, and the enzyme that carries the dehydrochlorination has been characterized in DDT-resistant flies (Lipke and Kearns 1959a,b). The herbicide alachlor is transformed by chironomid larvae by O-demethylation followed by loss of the chloroacetyl group to produce 2,6-diethylaniline... [Pg.96]

Kearns, Weinman, and Decker rate the more common halogenated insect toxicants in the following order of decreasing toxicity (7) dieldrin, aldrin, heptachlor, 7-hexachloro-cyclohexane, chlordan, toxaphene, and DDT. This rating follows as the result of rather extensive tests on ten species of insects and is believed to represent, in general, the order of their relative activity. [Pg.179]

Kearns, Weinman, and Decker determined the dosages of a number of the chlorinated compounds, dissolved in 95% ethyl alcohol, required to produce a 50% mortality of the housefly (7). The values obtained, expressed as micrograms of toxicant per gram of fly weight, are listed in Table V. [Pg.179]

The comparative residual activity of deposits of DDT and dieldrin, using the common housefly as the test insect, is illustrated in Table VIII. For purposes of comparison, both chlordan and aldrin are included in the tabulations. This material is taken from the paper by Kearns, Weinman, and Decker (7). [Pg.180]
