Shortly after this workshop, the 2002 Nobel Prize in economics was awarded to Daniel Kahneman and Vernon L. Smith for research in these two areas. 

There is one further bias in information processing that is perhaps worth commenting on in the context of safety and concerns our reactions to taking risks. The phenomenon to be described is one of a number of biases in information processing that occur when we are making choices. Originally described by two psychologists, Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky (1984), the work has had considerable impact on economic models of choice.
