K-Strophanthin

The cardenolides g-strophanthin (hRf 5-10), convallatoxin (hRj 30-35) and k-strophanthin (h/ j 50-55) immediately formed red-violet chromatogram zones that gradually faded. Hence, the reagent was not always suitable for quantitative work.

A mixture of cardiac glycosides isolated from Strophantus kombe mainly contains K-strophanthin- 8 and K-strophanthozide.

Stiripentol [inn, usan] (BCX 2600) is a benzodioxolyl derivative, an ANTICONVULSANT and anxiolytic. K-stophanthin-a strophanthin-K. stophanthoside-K strophanthin-K.

Strophanthi grati semen (1) is characterized by g-strophanthin (Tl) as the main compound at R 0.1, with smaller amounts of sarmentosides at Rf 0.25-0.4 and glycosides above and below g-strophanthin. Strophanthi kombd semen (2) contains the k-strophantin-glycoside mixture , which consists of k-strophanthoside (R, 0.05/T7), k-strophanthin 3 (R, 0.25/T3) and erysimoside (Rf 0.2/T4), They form major bands, while helveticoside (Rf — 0.55/T5) and cymarin (Rf — 0.6/T6) are minor compounds.

Therefore, these cardiac steroids were tested at lower concentration at equivalent mol ratio to TPA, as shown in Table 15. In this case, digitoxin (163) and cymarin (= K-strophanthin-a, 165) exhibited significant inhibitory effects (67.9% and 63.9%, respectively) and preserved high viability of Raji cells at this very low concentration.
