Started in 1947, Makromolekulare Chemie was meant to succeed the Journal fur praktische Chemie which had stopped in 1943 with volume 162, and which was then continued by Journal fiir makromolekulare Chemie of the latter title, however, only two volumes were published. In 1954, Journal fur praktische Chemie was started again in the East Zone of Germany, where it has been published since. During wartime, and especially afterwards, Staudinger had an intense relationship with Karlsruhe and mostly with Prof. F.A. Henglein. Henglein was a technical chemist and from the beginning was on the editorial board of Staudinger s Journal fiir Makromolekulare Chemie, later renamed Die Makromolekulare Chemie. He was the successor of Prof. P. Askenasy (see also Fig. 1). [Pg.58]
