Hovenia dulcis (family Rhamnaceae) This is commonly known as Japanese raisin tree and is distributed from the Himalayas to Japan. The edible part is fleshy swollen fruit stalk, which contains 25-30% sugar. The subacidic fruits are eaten in China and Japan, and in the hills of north eastern India and adjoining areas. It is also used medicinally for its diuretic effect. [Pg.147]
